What is RSS ?
RSS - or 'Really Simple Syndication' - is a widely-used format for distributing news from online sources such as this website. The RSS feed contains basic details of the news items, together with a link to the main story.
You use a 'news reader' program to keep track of the RSS feeds that you are interested in. The advantage of RSS is that you don't have to check back to see if there is anything new, the news reader program does it for you automatically. You can subscribe to lots of different news feeds at once - most are free, and the news reader program will help you to organise the feeds by subject. It's a bit like creating your own personalised newspaper.
Where can I get a news reader program ?
There are lots of news reader programs, many of them are free. Search on your favourite search engine for 'rss news reader software'. Once you have installed the program it is usually a simple matter to copy the address of the newsfeeds (given above) into the news reader.
