How to help
If you agree with our aims please contact your local MP (see www.writetothem.com)
It is important that the solutions to the A1079 issue be addressed as a whole. A bit of duel carridgeway here or a roundabout there will tend only to shift the problem to the next area. Therefore we need both the York and the Hull Authorities to join with the East Riding of Yorkshire Authority in a joint integrated campaign.
We are therefore keen for residents of the Hull and York Authority areas as well as the East Riding of Yorkshire area to contact their own Local Authorities and their own MP.
When writing to your own Local Authority / MP we suggest the following points be made:
1. The Action Access A1979 Project has been formed to lobby for money from central government to improve the road with the following aims:
2. This campaign involves virtually every Parish along the road and many others nearby and is gathering momentum
3. The campaign is working in partnership with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Members and Officers
4. Other MP's are being approached by all those involved in the campaign
5. There is a long history of problems with the road, with accidents and regular congestion
6. The journey can now easily take twice as long as it did only a few years ago
7. The East Riding gets an extremely poor allocation for road improvements. Only £3m the the whole area of 1000km of roads - £8.74 per head of population. This is the worst in the region.
