9th February 2006 Doctor Clive Henderson I would like to report a road traffic accident at the exit of Holme Road onto the A1079 Market Weighton by pass. A Rover car has a severely damaged bonnet on the grass verge on the corner today. In my experience this has been a particular accident blackspot
30th March 2006
approx. 08:15 a.m.
Clive Henderson Crash between grey Honda car and red Peugeot. Bonnet of the Honda moderately severe damage on the 1079 Market Weighton bypass. Police in attendance. Both cars pulled onto grass verge with attendant traffic delay.
Thursday 4th May 2006 at about 17:30 Grahame Hicks A blue people carrier and a red Jeepster 4 x 4 were involved in an accident on the Market Weighton by pass at the Holme on Spalding Moor junction. 3 fire engines were in attendance and a police car. Casualties were being treated on the grassy bank. No ambulance was to be seen. Two people who I took to be traffic counters were still counting vehicles as I passed the site on my way home. Firefighters were directing traffic and there didn't seem to be a major tailback - but although I didn't see the accident perhaps it was relatively recent.
Thursday 4th May Clive Henderson Toyota people carrier in collision with Mitsubishi, Holme Rd junction on Market Weighton bypass. Paramedics in attendance.
10th May 8.30am. C. Wastling Turning right off the A1079 down Canal Lane (past The Wellington Oak) A blue MPV traveling far too quickly down the 1079 to York had to do an emergency stop and mount the verge to avoid my car. Skid marks were left on the road. I use this right turn rather than the next because the narrow on-coming lane of the 1079 on the bend has far too many HGV's travelling too quickly round the corner or swerving out to avoid cars which indicate left too late.
Thursday 25th May 3:30~4:30 pm Luke Haskey As I live in shiptonthorpe, I see a good few accidents, and the accident on the 25 may 06 was a big one, must have happened around 3.30-4.30pm, a shunt between a Fiat Stilo and a Renault (possibly megane) the stilo driver was taken via the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to a hospital, there was quite a delay in traffic
Thursday 25th May 4:15 pm Hilary Saynor Shunt on A1079 at Shiptonthorpe by langlands Thursday 25th May 2006 at about 4.15p.m. 4 cars involved. One very badly damaged. Tail back building up nearly to dual carriageway at 4.23p.m.
Tuesday 23rd May 9:00 am Lee Mills Slow moving traffic at Shiptonthorpe re end shunt at around 9.00am. I have used the 1079 for the past 18 years and only recently used this on a daily basis and find this the worst road ever. slow moving traffic and road closers due to accidents. I must of counted 4 accidents in the last month alone.

The wooden bus shelter in Kexby on the A1079 has today been completely demolished by a car having a burst tyre, destroying a hedge and ending up in a nearby field. The driver says she was not speeding and nobody was hurt but just imagine if there had been somebody in the bus shelter!!

Friday 9th June 2006 0745 Grahame Hicks Collison on the roundabout at the bottom of Arras Hill. Two cars and a Frances Motors bus seem to have been involved. Later (0752) ambulance car was making way to scene from Bishop Burton and 08:08 police car seen heading that way along Beverley by pass.

This area might warrant monitoring. Since the speed cameras have been installed higher up Arrass Hill, overtaking downhill on that section has become an impossibility unless the driver in front is going really slowly - or you are prepared to accept 3 points and a fine. I wonder if a driver overtook the bus on the short section before the roundabout and was then unable to stop subsequently striking a vehicle on the roundabut. Pure conjecture on my part - but I have seen similar near misses in the past as the overtaking driver has shot past me onto the roundabout. Let us hope that no-one was hurt.

VW Golf Travelling east towards Bishop Burton. About 1/2 mile to the west of the village slowed down due to the line of traffic and was hit hard from behind by a lorry. The impact forced the car off the road, across 30’ of grass verge and into a hedge.
Driver suffered head and abdomen injuries, some heavy bruising and cuts from glass. Taken to Hull Royal Infirmary and allowed home later. Driver is still very sore and in pain from the incident.
The car, which was 7 years old, is a write-off. The insurers of the lorry have admitted liability on behalf of their client.

Monday 11 December 2006 between 17.20 and 17.45 Colin Beattie
Congestion on A1079 the traffic was at a standstill immediately after Grimston roundabout. The traffic averaged between 5 and 20 mph until Wilberfoss. We came to a complete halt on 3/4 occasions. I did not reach 50 mph until around the area of the Steer Inn. Cars wishing to enter onto A1079 from junctions were actually sitting in the middle of the road forcing cars on the A1079 to stop and let them into the flow of traffic. Some drivers were sitting with the cars jutting out onto the A1079 from these junctions forcing traffic to cross the centre line to avoid them
Monday 11 December 2006 08:00 Andrew Kent
Serious congestion - cars queued back to Hewson & Robinson garage for no apparent reason except sheer volume of traffic & poor weather.
  Neil Wellings
I have witnessed on many occasions people over taking over double whites where they are marked junctions for turning right or left and on corners but I feel what has caused this foolish behaviour is pure frustration of being stuck behind cars doing 30mph on a 60mph road even when they are able to go faster. Or tractors etc hold up traffic when they could pull in and could have pulled in, in the many available pull-ins but don’t.
Thursday mornings between 7.00am and 7.30am Barry Argyle
Add the rubbish bin collection lorry stopping between 7.00am and 7.30am from Barmby Moor to Kexby on Thursday mornings. Cant they go later in the day? Farm vehicles i.e. tractors/trailers etc early morning and evening rush hours and poorly light!
Monday morning 06.55 22 January 2007 Colin Beattie
I was in a queue of about 5 cars behind an articulated wagon. When opposite Phoenix Software, the car immediately behind the wagon decided to overtake it, and had to drive on the right hand side of the keep left sign. Also at the same time, a car in the queue overtook another car and had to cut in to avoid colliding with the keep left sign. This car also overtook the wagon near the Hewson and Robinson garage and again had to cut in to avoid colliding with the keep left sign. At Dunnington another wagon drove out onto the A1079 forcing traffic travelling in both directions to come to a halt to allow him to cross over the road and head to York. All this within about 10 minutes of driving.
