A1079 news: A1079 closed due to accident Arras Hill - Bishop Burton
The A1079 was closed this morning because of an accident between Bishop Burton and Arras Hill, with police diverting traffic coming towards York over the narrow (and rather precarious) Wold Top route into Market Weighton. The cause of the accident is unknown but only a single lorry was involved and no-one was hurt.
This stretch of the A1079 is ranked by Euro RAP as the 7th most dangerous road in the UK, with 62 fatal or serious accidents between 2000 and 2005. Of these 37% occurred at junctions (2003-05 figures). Of the 17 UK roads assessed by EuroRAP as being "Britain's persistently higher risk roads", all are, like the A1079, either single or mixed carriageway roads - no dual-carriageway road is rated in these high-risk categories.

- as i travel between weighton and beverley everyday,i would just like to say. That if people got up 10 mins earlier, they would have plenty of time to get to work. alas i see every morning impatient car drivers trying to get past lorry's on bends, over double white lines, and hills. the speed for a truck on this road,is 40 mph,and mostly 50 for cars. some sections are 60 mph and 50 mph for vans. i used to speed everywhere, now i have realised you don't get there any faster, people overtake me everyday, and most times i can guarentee they will be the next vehicle or so in front of me when i get to the next rounabout. slow down keep your calm and curtesy and live longer.
